Mark D. Stout,
Senior Vice President / General Counsel
Mark is Senior Vice President and General Counsel for Weingarten Realty. As General Counsel, Mark manages a team of approximately forty associates in the Legal Department of Weingarten. While Mark supervises the division leaders of the Growth, Development, Litigation, and Governmental sections of the Legal Department, he also directly manages the Leasing division of the department.
Mark joined Weingarten as Assistant Counsel in May 1994, to form the Acquisitions division of the Legal Department (now the Growth division), and thereafter served as manager of that division until May 2003. He was appointed manager of the Leasing division of the Legal Department in May 2003. In 2005, he was elected to the position of Vice President/Associate General Counsel and continued his role as manager of the Leasing division. On June 1, 2012, Mark was promoted to Vice President/General Counsel. Mark was promoted to his current position, Senior Vice President/General Counsel, on March 1, 2016.
Prior to joining Weingarten Realty, Mark practiced real estate and mortgage finance law for ten years in the Houston office of Butler & Binion, LLP. He is a 1981 graduate of Marquette University with honors and received his Juris Doctorate in 1984 from the University of Houston Law Center.
Mark is a member of the State Bar of Texas as well as a Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation where he has served on the nominating committee. He is an active member of the International Council of Shopping Centers. Mark is an Eagle Scout and has served in various committee and leadership positions for the past several years in Boy Scout Troop 197 in Houston. He is a cycling enthusiast and has participated in the MS150 bike tour from Houston to Austin to help raise financial support and awareness for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Mark has been a Superstar fundraiser for that event his past several tours.
